The Road to San Francisco
The drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco normally takes about 5 hours and 45 minutes, but we were set on taking the scenic route. We drove as much of the Pacific Coast Highway as time would allow, stretching the drive out to about 7 hours. The additional time flew by as we drove past iconic beaches and beautiful countryside.

We stopped in Santa Barbara for a break to grab some lunch before turning off the Pacific Coast Highway for a more direct route to San Francisco.

Hotel Accommodations
We really lucked out on Hotwire in San Francisco! We were randomly booked the Palace Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel. We checked in April 21, 2018, for three nights giving us plenty of time to sightsee and attend both Giants and Athletics games.

The Game
Seemed like we were following the Red Sox around California. The Athletics played the Red Sox at 1:05 PM on April 22, 2018. A hot day, a half-filled ballpark, and no shortage of Red Sox fans. The Oakland Coliseum wasn’t my favorite ballpark but I will say it was very easy to get to on public transportation.
Travel Tip: From Montgomery Street in downtown San Francisco, you can take the Blue Line train straight to the Oakland Coliseum.

Walking the Piers
In the evening after the game we walked the piers on The Embarcadero from The Ferry Building to Fisherman’s Warf. It’s about a 35 min walk but there is lots to see. If you want to make a day of it, check out the Ferry Building Marketplace, Pier 39, and Fisherman’s Warf.
Travel Tip: We enjoyed walking The Embarcadero at night time because there was no crows. If you don’t plan on shopping much take a walk later at night after dinner.
