Arriving in California
My dad and I started our California trip in San Diego. We arrived on April 18, 2018 for a game later that night at 7:10PM. I have to say the best part of the trip may have been arriving in the airport and meeting up. You could see the excitement on our faces that this trip was finally happening. We took our Ford Mustang convertible from the airport to the hotel and got settled in. Side note: If you haven’t had a chance to read our previous post Planning for California, check it out. Hotel Accommodations
We really lucked out with the hotel in San Diego. Generally I use Hotwire.com for our hotel reservations. If you’ve ever used Hotwire, you know you have little control over which hotel you get booked at but you can control is the area. So I picked the area near Petco Park and Hotwire booked us for the Omni San Diego Hotel. Take a look at the map below and you’ll see just how close we got to the park!
It gets even better though. As we were heading to the game, we noticed a small line forming in the lobby. Petco Park is the only ballpark in America connected via pedestrian bridge to a hotel. Omni Hotel guests have access to a private entrance in the ballpark.

The Game
The San Diego Padres played the Los Angeles Dodgers that day and the cross town rivalry was real! A solid turn out of Dodgers fans was a good preview to the super fans we would be surrounded by through Anaheim and Los Angeles. Our seats were in the Field Box 114; Row 27; Seats 3, 4. We bought all of our tickets on the day of the game to avoid purchasing tickets to a rained out game. Lucky we had great weather the entire trip and got good deals through Stubhub.com.
